Of all the things I've been trying to work on, my blog entries are not faring so well, so here is an update on what's been going on on our little homestead since the last time I wrote ...
March -
We finished up our #backyardrenobywright projects including the garden beds, the chicken coop and the chicken tractor.
April -
We got the early season vegetables in the new beds and continued to tidy the property and the house.
My sister and I went to Vancouver and did the Vancouver Sun Run, it was a great experience and we were both very excited to accomplish it together.
May -
C and I celebrated our 2nd anniversary by road tripping to Tofino, just before we left we were excited to announce to our family and friends that we are EXPECTING! Not just one baby but twins, due December 2nd, 2016. Needless to say the windy roads of Vancouver Island did not help with the morning sickness I had been experiencing but the trip was great. A much needed change to reconnect with one another, celebrate our anniversary and our next big adventure!

We finally added laying hens to our homestead. Three to start with; a Barred Rock named Dottie, an Australorp/Coronation Sussex cross named Betty and an Ameraucana named Phoebe. We got them as younger birds so that we could raise them up and expected them to lay by September.

July -
We continued tending to the gardens and the hens each and every day. July was an unusually wet month for the Okanagan, in fact the whole beginning of the year had been.
We started on our babies' nursery to ensure it was ready for them in case they came early. Having twins meant lots of Doctors appointments, ultrasounds, etc. We were super impressed with the medical attention and care the babies and I received. Things began to slow down for me around this time as I was not feeling very well and experiencing quite a bit of pain.
August -
August was extremely hot, making tending to the gardens difficult.
We ended up giving the Ameraucana hen to a friend who has a large flock, Phoebe had become quite aggressive both towards people (mainly me) and the other hens, to the point she was actually causing them quite serious injury.
On C's 25th Birthday we got our first egg out of our hens. It was so exciting to find that little brown egg in the coop in the morning that I ran inside screaming for Colin, and such a great coincidence that it was on his birthday too! It really hammered home to always keeping chasing your dreams, whether they seem too big, or too far away, just take each day as an opportunity to get one step closer to it because there is nothing in the world more satisfying then finding your own tiny brown egg!

September -
We were incredibly busy in September. The appointments never stop, C's step sister got married, I was put on medical leave from work, we took a few prenatal classes and I started a prenatal yoga. The wedding was great, the weather was really nice and the venues were beautiful. It was so nice to get all dressed up and treat it as a date night, something we both needed.
In preparation for the babies, we got the nursery completed, freezer meals prepped and packed away and the gardens put to bed for the year as I can't tend to them anymore.
October -
About a week ago I was put on permanent bed rest until the babies are here. Thankfully both the babies are growing well and are healthy, just my body needs less stress and pressure to ensure they stay with me for as long as possible. As I write this I am 33 weeks and one day so we have a few more weeks to go yet before they are considered "safe" to be born and thrive on their own.
I guess that's all for now!
